Sweet toddler sayings!

My two year old was eating a snack while I was nursing my 9 month old. Here is how our conversation went.

Joslyn: "my nummy nummy" (showing off her cookie).

Me: "yes Joslyn, that is your nummy nummy"

Joslyn: "Mommy is Sissy's nummy nummy."

Me: "yes I am sissy's nummy nummy" (Could not hide my giggle!!!!!)

National Institute for Infant Nutrion

I received a rather odd questionnaire in the mail yesterday. It was from the National Institute  for Infant Nutrition. My first thought was "what the heck is this?!" This paper asked questions about how the youngest baby in my home eats and how often.

I began to read the paper work when a separate paper fell out full of every different kind of infant formula and pictures of the containers. I looked closer at the paperwork and saw it was more about formula feeding, with only two questions regarding breastfeeding. I was immediately bothered that infant formula seemed to be the highest priority and breastmilk barely mentioned.

So I thought that I would fill it out and make my breastmilk known! But after researching this "institute" I am under the understanding that it is a false place. I found this thread and thought you would like to know.

I have decided not to send my paper back, if this is a ploy from the formula companies....I refuse to play. Like I have said before, on this blog, I AM NOT against formula. However I am against crazy games that they can play. I will do more research and will let you know what I find out......has anyone seen this "institute" before?

What do you take?

So, over the weekend my Mother In Law found my prenatal vitamins. She about had a heart attack in my kitchen! She picked up the bottle and said "Oh my gosh! What are these....don't tell me....You are not...." Bless her heart she could not finish a sentence!

I explained to her that they are also for lactating moms and then my husband informed her that I have been taking them since 2006.

After that I swear I heard her breath again. hehe

So I got to thinking....how many moms continue to take Prenatal Vitamins while breastfeeding? So I found this article from Baby Center, and it IS still recommended to take them. As inexpensive as they are....heck why not! They can not do any harm!

What have I learned?

With World Breastfeeding Week coming to an end, I thought I would take this time to think about what I have learned this week.

I guess what I have realized is not really anything new, but I think it makes me a bit more sad. In this country, breastfeeding (to more people than I would like at admit) is thought to be gross, silly, and unnecessary. "If there is formula available, then why breastfeed?" Yes, this is a question I read from an article. It seems people are grossed out when they see a woman Nursing In Public (NIP), whether she is covered or not. Someone even said that nursing in public is no different than a man peeing in public. (really?)

Why is it so different now than it was so many years ago? Why now is our culture so grossed out by the most natural motherly behavior, but turned on by sexual nudity and vulgar words?

No matter how protected we are by the law, people feel the need to fight nursing moms and make them feel ashamed. Well I am here to say, I will not be made to feel ashamed! I am doing the best I can for my children and I will not be made to feel any different.

On the flip side, this week has shown me how we can stick together. Many articles have shown such wonderful and positives sides to breastfeeding and its supporters. Many moms, business, and families have gotten together to spread awareness, and that is just so beautiful!

This week has shown me just how wonderful breastfeeding is, not like I did not know that already......but a nice reminder is always good!

What did you learn this week?
