Too much on one side?

So Mummies, I have a question for you. Do you have more milk on one side vs the other? Have you even thought about it? For me.... (even when I was nursing Pooker) I always had more milk in my right breast. It was much more infact that when I pumped, I would get an ounce or two more out of my right breast vs my left breast. I was happy to find that this was normal and I was not a freak of nature! Also, Pooker would prefer the right side over the left as well. I am still in that boat with Kit Kat, however she equally loves my right and left breasts!

So I began to think.... I wonder if having more milk on one side corresponds with whether you are right or left handed. I am right handed.... and produce more milk on my right side. So I wondered about other Mummies. I made a poll so we could all see the results.

Please take a short few seconds and take the poll and please leave a comment. Should be fun to see the results!!!!!!!

  1. I think that this is very interesting. I also produce more, but it is on my left side...almost 2-3 oz. more (and that's the side that I had problems with mastitis). BUT, I am ambidextrous. I use my right hand to write and eat (most days), but I tend to do everything else with my left. I am trying now to nurse 2 times a day on the left and 3 times on the right to get my supply to even out...now that he's getting older.

  3. wow i think i am in the vast minority. between my 2 kids i have been nursing for 76 months and i produce way more on my left side and i am right handed. I always thought it may have something to do with the fact that i tend to nurse them on my left so i can eat, type, write with my right hand so my left side got more stimulation but by the looks of the pole results so far it seems like i may be an oddball...thats kinda funny :o)

  4. I think I must have clicked the wrong button! Cause I produced slightly more on the left side, but I am right handed. My first 3 children preferred the left side. I figured I was more comfortable holding them that way, so it made sense. Then baby#4 changed the rules! He loved the right side, not the left and had a stronger preference than the first 3. I voted around 5:13, so if I voted wrong, please see if you can changed it. Thanks! I will be interested in the results.

  7. I produced about twice as much on my left side even though I am right handed. I was ambidextrous when I started school, but I was taught to be right handed.

  8. I am right handed and produce more on my right. I noticed when my son was smaller I fed him on the right side more because it was more comfortable (in the chair I had) and also I'd sometimes forget what side I did last so I'd automatically do the right. I kindof wonder if I produced more on that side because it was used more.
