Are you a holder?

So, yesterday while I was nursing Kit Kat  a song popped in my head. I am sure that this screams "YOU ARE A MOMMY!" and it did kinda make me giggle. Now, there is a reason why this song wiggled its toddler way into my head. This song is not normally part of our song rotation....... Do you remember "Do your ears hang low?" If not, here is one verse:
Do your ears hang low?
Do they wobble to and fro?
Can you tie them in a knot?
Can you tie them in a bow?
Can you throw them o'er your shoulder
Like a Continental Soldier?
Do your ears hang low?

Okay.... weird song to think of while nursing right? Not when you hear why!

So like I said I was nursing Kit Kat.... I realized that I hold my nummie maker while she is nursing. Let me explain that one, because that sounds wierd! I will more or less hold it up for her while she is nursing. Anyone who knows me will tell you I am not large breasted. I am pretty average if not a bit smaller than average. (I am okay with that...... bras are amazing! Plus still bfing helps a lot! hehe) Anyways.... like I was saying. I hold up one side. Picture pointer finger and middle finger underneath with my thumb up top. I dont know why I started that and I did not do it with Pooker. Looking back, I had to help Pooker latch on for the first 6 months, so my free hand was always around her chin helping her out.

It seemed to help Kit Kat keep a better latch, she used to be a noisy sucker. You would hear slurping all the time. Which means poor latch. So I found holding up my nummie maker helped her keep a much better latch. But now, with her being 16 months old I think it is just habbit. So as I looked down yesterday and saw what I was holding, I began to hum, "Do your ears hang low?" and I imagined throwing "them o'er your shoulder like a Continental Soldier!!" OMG! See why it was so funny now? I mean really? "O'er your shoulder?"

We need to re write that song....
Do your nummie makers hang low?
Do they wobble to and fro?
Can you tie them in a knot?
Can you tie them in a bow?
Can you throw them o'er your shoulder
Like a Continental Soldier?
Do your nummie makers hang low?
Oh I must be lossing it!!

So what wierd things do you do while nursing?

  2. Nope, I did not do that with any of mine. Was with my SIL who was BFing this weekend and she was holding hers. Randomly thought - wonder why she does that??? Interesting timing on your post!

  3. i would hold my large nummies because it always looked like i was going to suffocate him, so i would try and make sure his nose was clear! now i realise that if his nose was blocked he would obviously unlatch! and also sometimes holding your breast whilst feeding can lead to milk ducts not draining properly and getting blocked. so i tried to avoid doing it, but sometimes it is necessary to help latching on.

  4. I'm an itty bitty Mama, so there's no room for a hand...it would be in the way. But I have to admit that the song has popped into my head too while nursing...and not just with Little Man, but with Sweet Pea 8 years before too! I'm glad I'm not the only one that does that.

  5. *raises her hand high* I am SOOOOO a nummie maker holder! But I have too. I'm normally a D/DD. Currently, ... well, lets just say I'm a lot bigger. lol At first, I held it to keep from smothering her. Now, 9 months later, I'm still holding it. Now, more to keep her properly latched. Only time I don't have to hold is if we are laying down. Let's just say, it just makes feeding in public interesting. :0)

  7. I'm a part time holder. Lol I'm usually a B but breastfeeding makes me closer to a D but usually I don't have to hold and my babies latch fine but with dd at night when she gets sleepy she gets a little lazy and want latch on all the way.(its like she doesn't want to move at all!) So I started holding at night so she can get a good latch and get all her nummies and sleep like a little angel!
