Breastfeeding moms are stupid, So says a new study

Okay, so I want to be the first one to say it. I AM NOT STUPID. Okay..... thank you.
So a new "study" was done as to how others looked at women who breastfeed. I think I about dropped to the floor when I read what the study found. So it seems we mummies are significantly less competent in general.

Okay, so let me break it down for you. The three part experiment study was done by three Montana State University psychologists. In the first study, participants rated a woman who had breastfed as incompetent.(NICE!) In the second study, the results were the same and determined that the bias was specific to conditions that sexualized the breast. (EVEN BETTER!) In study three results showed the breastfeeding woman was rated significantly less competent in general, in math and work specifically, and was less likely to be hired compared to all other conditions, except for the sexualized breast condition. (OH GOOD LORD!)

Now the participants in the these studies were a mix of male and female (thanks ladies for supporting your fellow peers!) and it just shows how disturbing society looks at breastfeeding and women who breastfeed. As the study concluded to find, society may seem to understand that breastfeeding has many positive results, but also comes with one big seems it damns us socially!

So it is a wonder why The United States' has some of the lowest breastfeeding rates, why the percentage of American women who breastfeed are “stagnant and low,” according to the Federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Gee let me think and ponder that one!

Oh wow! So how does it feel to be labeled as stupid from your peers? I feel pretty positive about this study.... don't you?! (BARF!!)

Bump up my post on Mom Blog Network

  1. IGNORANT! That's all I can say about this. Especially knowing all the facts about breastfeeding. Why is it then that the more education a woman has, the more likely they are to breastfeed? Because they are stupid? Makes no sense!

  2. I love my husband's comment about this. "Follow the grants on the study, I bet it goes back to someone that makes formula"

  3. Exactly EarthMama! Money talks....

I know I am not stupid because I am breastfeeding and not bottlefeeding. What a sad study.

I love this blog and thankful to read others posts that feel similar to myself!

  4. @christine.. thank you so much! that means so much!!!

  5. "Importantly, the breastfeeding mother emphasis and the sexualized breast emphasis resulted in equally negative evaluations"

It wasn't just breastfeeding mothers - it was any attention being drawn to the breast. I don't think it's a blow for breastfeeding mothers per se... It was also relating entirely to job candidates and tbh, I think that drawing attention to the breast in this setting wasn't exactly a level playing field - why would you point out that you were breastfeeding (or that you had breasts at all) in a job interview?

  6. @anonymous: if I read the study correctly....they only showed photos of women to a group of people and maybe a voice recording as well. None of the women actually said that they were bfing......I believe. It was just "speculated" to see how the crowd Perceived them...........

  7. Goes to show how bad public opinion is about BF, and how that needs to change!

  8. Get a job, "Mummies nummies."
