Breastfeeding baby doll

Okay.... I have stayed away from this topic. (I have.. really I have!) But recently I have been thinking about it. I know you have seen the breastfeeding baby doll by now (If you have not.... do not worry...... it's okay!)

Well.. here is the break down...... The baby doll was created by Spain-based Berjuan Toys' company. The baby doll comes with a little girl halter top, for the Lil' Mummie to wear (while nursing). If the little baby doll is a girl, then the Lil' Mummie can put flowers over her " Lil' Nummie Makers" and stars for a boy baby doll. (Cute thought.... but I am stuck on this one. Is it really necessary to have appliques over nummie makers? Hmmmm.)  When the baby doll's mouth gets close to a sensor (located on the either the flowers or stars) the baby will begin making sucking noises and motions.

Dennis Lewis, U.S. representative for Berjuan Toys, says the doll is a much-needed antidote to a culture that advocates bottle-feeding at the expense of breast-feeding, even though it's known to offer health benefits for mother and child.

Okay... I can agree with that...... BUT do we really need to pay 69.99 for a baby doll, that our children can nurse?

This brings me to what happened last week. Kit Kat was a bit grumpy and crying. I was cooking dinner.... so Pooker took it upon herself to (now I am not kidding here..... this is exactly what happened) walk over to Kit Kat, lift her shirt up (exposing her "lil' nummie makers") said "come here baby" (WITH hand motions) "do you want to eat?" Kit Kat then replied (with sobs) "yeah..." Pooker: "okay" then proceeded to hug Kit Kat for a few seconds. Then said "Oh you too big... sorry" and walked away. (Leaving Kit Kat with a confused expression on her face!)

Now really.... do we need to spend 70 bucks on a breastfeeding doll? NO WAY! Lordy Lordy! My three year old tried to breastfeed my 20 month old! (let me say that again.....) My THREE year old tried to BREASTFEED my 20 month old. (Should I go on Jerry Springer? Oh how about Dr. Phil? Yeah I so need my Phil at 5!)

So my opinion? The breastfeeding baby doll is GREAT! But I think it would be better used in an educational setting. To me.... I just can not spend 70 dollars, for a baby doll, when my oldest child is willing to nurse her baby sissy.... just because she was crying. I think she has the whole breastfeeding thing down!

What about you? What do you think?
