"If they are old enough to ask for it... it is time to stop."
So let's take a look at that comment.... shall we? Come along with me, let's go for a ride......So according to THIS comment..... we need to ALL change the way we look at the following situations:
"Like taking candy from a baby".... Well as long as the mentioned baby is ASKING for the candy... then yes we need to take it away. NOW!
"Mommy, hold me!" SHAME ON YOU! How dare you use your words! I will not hold you since you asked me to!
"Mommy, I need to go potty." Oh Honey I am sorry... since you are old enough to ask to use the potty, I can't let you. Sorry!
"Mommy, I'm tired. Can I go nappy now?" Well I was going to say yes..... but since you asked me..... NOPE! You have to stay awake! (P.S. yes..... my girls actually ask to go to sleep. Lucky... I know!)
"Hey Mom, Can I drive the car?" Ummmm NO! How dare you ask! I mean REALLY!
As parents, we TEACH our children to USE THEIR WORDS. It is one of the best forms of communication. Babies are also taught sign language (we taught it to Pooker)..... so is it the fact of using words or is any form of communication considered "asking". And if that is the case then 4 month old babies who use sign language should be considered too old. Kit Kat was talking in 4-5 word sentences ("Me eat" was one of her phrases) at 9 months old..... so should I have stopped breastfeeding her then?
What happened to allowing children be children? Let babies be babies? They have their whole lives to be "old enough"..... Why rush them? I am not going to rush my babies just to benefit some stranger or nay sayer. I will do what is best for my family, not what you think is "right."
Not to mention breastmilk does not change (in benefits) when a baby is old enough to ask for it, old enough to get it on her/his own, or old enough to crawl/walk/run. As long as breastmilk is being produced.... the benefits remain.
So for all of the breastfeeding newborns, infants and toddlers....
For all of the breastfeeding Mummies........
I give you Kit Kat (28 months and 1 day old as of today) ASKING *gasp!!* to eat. Take it away my sweet KK.

Side note.... please know I was being VERY sarcastic with the "situations"........ I mean VERY!
