Milkmakers Cookie Giveaway

CONGRATS TO KATRINA! SHE IS THE WINNER OF THE MILKMAKERS LACTATION COOKIES!

I just LOVE products that help make our breastfeeding journey a little bit easier. Go on and throw in a product that makes breastfeeding easier AND tastes YUMMY....... well, well, well you have my attention!

A couple of weeks ago I got a nice surprise in my email in-box. Lucy, Social Media Coordinator from Milkmakers, wanted to know if I was interested in teaming up with Milkmakers. I will be honest and say I have  not heard too much about this company.... so I did some research.......... and well let's just say I "leaked" at the chance. (Hehe.)
(I love their logo!!!)

Milkmakers is a lactation cookie company that was founded by Emily, a breastfeeding and working Mummie, who found the need to help boost her supply when she returned to work following the birth of her first child. She began creating her own Nummie boosting foods, thanks to her baking know how!

Milkmakers have been seen on The Doctors, Parenting Magazine, Time Magazine ........ and NUMEROUS others! Talk about a GREAT way to give breastfeeding some positive air time! All of Milkmakers cookies are made with all natural ingredients and are made with Oats, Brewer's Yeast, and Flax seed

So...like I said I "leaked" at the chance to try these lactation cookies. Now..... I have reviewed many lactation cookie.... and have loved them all. I have loved all of them for one reason or another and some for different reasons. So I was not sure what to expect when I was given the chance to review Milkmakers. So let's begin with the moment they came in the mail.

LOOK AT THAT!!!!! How awesome is that packaging?! Resealable (zip lock) closure! The bag is made of thick material and each cookie is separated by a sheet of parchment paper.  The cookie size..... well lets just say WOW! Impressive!

I choose to get the Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Milkmakers cookies. But they also have an Oatmeal Raisin which is DAIRY FREE. You can order either the raisin or the chocolate chip, or choose to do a variety pack which includes both cookies. Milkmakers also offers a monthly subscription service, that comes with FREE shipping. (EEEEEEKKKK I love me some free shipping!)

Where is my palm?! OHHHHHH it is under the massive cookie!!!!!

So the first impressions were AWESOME! But what about the taste test? Milkmakers cookies are soft, tasty, yummy, crumbly, and OHHHHHHH so good! I love me some chocolate chip cookies.... and these rank right up there! I tried them "thawed" and frozen. The are yummy both ways.... but I am a softy for a soft cookie..... so I prefer the thawed version.

So what about the result test? (I ate 1-2 cookies a day for 3 days, before I wrote this review, as stated on the cookie package.)

Well, Kit Kat is now 30 moths old, nurses once a day and I do not pump. So I can say how much these cookies helped me produce. All I can gauge the results on is how my body felt and Kit Kat's reaction. So on day 3, I woke up with tingling nipples. (Yupp.... the nips were tingling! For sure sign of increased Nummies! ) I thought to myself "hmmmmmm that feels weird!" then I went to get kit Kat from her bed. Per her normal morning time ritual, we sat on the recliner and she said "Mommy, I want to eat" so eat she did. And did.....and did......and did..... AND DID! Holy Breasmilk  Batman! I looked at my husband and said "She won't stop!" (Which earned a giggle from Kit Kat......without breaking her latch I must add.) Now the girls and I always say "bye bye" to daddy when he leaves for work in the morning. We even wait by the window to wave as he drives by (awwww... I know!) And normally Kit Kat will see her daddy (in the morning) and want a good morning hug. But not that morning! Oh No! She was not letting go! She wouldn't even let go when my husband said the popular phrase "Who wants to say bye bye to daddy?" I had to stand up (with her latched on) and walk to the door. This again made her giggle (and my husband)...... but she did not un latch! My husband even kissed her little forehead  (with her attached) and still she refused to let go! Luckily (for me and my nip) just before Daddy left the house she let go and gave him a hug "bye bye." So my answer to the result test: WORKED FOR ME!

First impression test: A+
Taste test: A+
Result test: A++++

Now you know that I LOVE to share the Mummie "wealth"......so I am excited to say that Milkmakers is giving away a 10 day supply of Milkmaker's cookies to one lucky Mummie!!!!!! What makes a Mummie?

Since it is "Mummie's" Day....... and the whole Time Magazine "Are you Mom enough?" debate is going on.... I thought it would be a great time to see what makes a "Mummie" a........ well..... Mummie!

What makes a Mummie?

Is it by carrying a baby for 9 months?

Is it determined on where you gave birth?

Maybe a Mummie is created by how many toes their baby has

Or by how many fingers on each hand

Perhaps by their child's hearing ability

How about how perfect their baby looks

Or how if they co-sleep or not

Maybe what makes a Mummie is how they choose to feed their babies

Or how healthy their babies are born

Or how they diaper their children

Maybe it matters if you "baby-wear"

How about angel babies? Do they make  you a Mummie?

What makes a Mummie? For me.... the answer is simple. It does not matter if you breastfeed, bottle feed, formula feed, home birth or hospital birth, grow your children in your belly or adopt. It doesn't matter the amount of fingers or toes, or even the ability to hear. It doesn't matter if your child is born healthy or not, if you co-sleep or not. Or which kind of diaper you choose to use. Being a Mummie doesn't matter if you hold your children in your arms or if you hold them only in your heart.

No. What makes a Mummie is the love you have for your children. How you would do anything for them. Being a Mummie means that you do the very best you can, with what you have, in order to make them happy and healthy. Every Mummie is different. But our love for our children is always the same. That is what makes you a Mummie.

Happy Mummie's Day to all of you.

Pacis and Breastfeeding

There is a new "study" that has found pacis and breastfeeding DO mix well. It has been said (for many years) that introducing a paci (to a breastfed Nummie Lover) should happen at 3 months old. The reasoning behind this "3 month rule" was to help prevent "nipple confusion".

But a recent breastfeeding study, done at Oregon Health & Science University Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, has found the opposite to be true. In December 2010, the hospital did not introduce pacis, to newborns, in hopes to improve their breastfeeding rates. But to their SHOCK the opposite happened. Their rates of exclusive breastfed babies DROPPED when they no longer supplied pacis. Prior to their "paci lock up" their exclusive breastfed rate was 80%, but then dropped to 70% . (ROCK ON to the 80%! That is awesome!)

When we removed pacifiers from routine distribution, we weren’t seeing the improvements we had expected,” said Carrie Phillipi, an associate professor of pediatrics and medical director of the hospital’s Mother-Baby Unit.

The hospital decided to "lock up" the pacis, in compliance with The World Health Organization's "Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding". The hospital had hopes of achieving The WHO's Baby Friendly Hospital Status....as you have to follow all 10 steps in order to achieve the status. Although, The WHO's no paci policy was implemented back in 1991 and at that time evidence had shown that paci use had lowered breastfeeding rates.

It seems now......that policy is, once again, up for debate. For us, pacis SAVED my breastfeeding journey with Pooker. She was born without the ability to suck, latch or even open her mouth wide enough. In the first days of her life, we taught her how to do all of those things with the use of a paci. Kit Kat knew how to latch and suck from minute 1... so pacis were also fine with her...... HOWEVER she was a picky paci person! We had to find just the right one for her.

It is super interesting, to me, that studies/research/experiments change what we once thought was accurate. That new studies/research/experiments de-bunk what previous studies/research/experiments have found. Just goes to show that you just never know.

What about you, Mummie? What have you found to happen with pacis and your Nummie Lovers?
